Edmonton City Council's Transportation and Public Works Public Hearing on the proposed 87th Avenue line:  has been postponed to Tuesday, September 9, 2008, at City Hall - more details to follow!

Attention Lynnwood:  87th Avenue LRT Proposal

The City of Edmonton has proposed an extension to the LRT line which will come from University Avenue, cross the river on a bridge, tunnel under Valleyview, emerge at the traffic circle at 142nd Street and carry on down 87th Avenue above ground to Lewis Estates.  The second option is to go Fox Drive, up 149th Street and then down 87th Avenue.

The Transportation Committee of City Council will vote on this proposal on Tuesday, May 20th September 9, at 1:30 p.m. TBA, so Lynnwood’s time frame to understand/react to the proposals is very, very, short.

Immediate Implications for Lynnwood include:

·   expropriation of houses along 87th Avenue of up to two streets, and potentially along 149th Street as well

·   walls erected next to remaining houses, which will have sound/vibration issues

·   severely compromised access in and out of our community, and to and from neighborhood schools

·   introduction of much higher density housing all along 87th Avenue

·   major implications for traffic flow on 149th Street, 156th Street and 87th Avenue

·  unparalleled changes to how we live and travel

To help inform Lynnwood residents, the Community League has:

·   created a website  www.westlrtconcerns.com.  There is also a page on the site where you can vote on the proposal and put your comments in.  We will take the input collected forward to City Council so please take the time to visit the site.

·   organized a Town Hall Meeting to discuss proposal on Monday, May 12th at 7:00 p.m. at Lynnwood School, 15451 - 84 Avenue.  Please attend the meeting for more info and dialogue.

Ward 1 Councillor Karen Leibovici supports the 87th Avenue route; Councillor Linda Sloan has
